The Hillsborough disaster was a human crush which occurred during the semi-final FA Cup tie between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest football clubs on 15 April 1989 at the Hillsborough Stadium in Sheffield, England. The crush resulted in the deaths of 96 people — 94 on the day and 2 victims who died in hospital.[1] Another 766 people were injured. The Hillsborough disaster remains the worst stadium-related disaster in British history and one of the world's worst football disasters.[2]
The recent revelation of the Hillsborough disaster being a total different story to that that was represented in the media is a serious relisation of the power and control the media have over peoples views on events. The fact the police were a prominent part of this injustice to the people of Liverpool and Hillsborough families was shocking as the police are meant to be role models to society, and lies are certainly not a trait a role model should posess. I have now realised that celebrities and events could be totally different to that that is read in a magazine or newspaper as things can be twisted and misinterpreted which has made me
1) Consider being more neutral towards people or events I have read about as I am not sure this is the ultimate truth
2) Make sure any media work I do where peoples views could be influenced should be researched and made sure to be true.
